Technology is growing in expotential rate and the competitiveness is great in the global world. United States, India and China are the three biggest countries to have great influences in global economy.
Higher education and technology create new knowledge and can fit to the demand of high technology and innovative companies.
Job that exist today will not necesarily exist when today's students completed their studies due to a lot of knowledge and innovation-based jobs are moving to India and China. So education should transform to new cirriculums along with society and technology innovation to form new knowledge.
Human-surpassing intelligence will be invented in the near future. The education should nuture students with creative thinking, skills and knowledge to match the needs of the new technology era.
there is only quantitatively dimensions in this video, mind boggling yes but could be misleading. some of the implicit connection presented might be too simplistic e.g. # of smart Indian kids > whole kids population in USA. looking back at history, the rise & fall of a nation are caused by many factors. some immediate thoughts are:
1. what is the goal of education in the 21st century? what challenges the world faces now & need attention - planet perils, global warming, wars, poverty gap etc ..... what do we want our next generation to be?
2. what role does tech play in all of these?
3. am not sure all of the phenomenon described (e.g. job loss, new jobs type, higher education curriculum relevancy) is purely a result of tech advances? The current financial crisis resulting from greed & lack of oversight may have actually driven more workers out of work & caused more troubles to many lives on earth.
4. given being bombasted by tech in this study, i sometimes worry that i am overly tech-centric - 'when u r inside the picture, you might not be able to see the frame. ' i may be still from the old school.
I agree with Hilda in her comment about the statistics being misleading. Statistics can be interpreted anyway the statistician wants.
However there is a huge shift in the job market and there is no denying that many jobs are being created that have never existed. Technology has had an enormous influence in the past ten years and is now in integrated into people's lives rather than a tack on.
The progress of technology is so exciting and the opportunities are limitless for teachers and children. One of the reasons I'm so interested in technology in education is that it embraces good educational teaching practice. From this video the main message to me is for educators to be innovative about the ways you can incorporate technology into your classroom and don't panic if teaching is not done the way you used to do it! Focus on improving student learning.
This video also achieves its aim by alerting and challenging those who are not so positive towards the importance of technology.
