The education approach emphasis on the constructivism to education and broke the traditional education of teaching and copying the knowledge. (knowledge tramission)
Pedagogy DNA (eg. Teachers use an open-ended online project to inspire the collaboration of students to use their existed knowledge to create new knowledge) is unique and stands for different materials or tools used by teachers to enhance and inspire students working together through talking and playing. So I would say it is quite match the constructivism approach. (knowledge building)
may be our classrooms' physical set up should also change to facilitate collaborative learning?
apart from kindergartens where students are organised in groups around tables, i think most schools including universities are still set in a 1 (teacher)to many (students) mode that's more fit for knowledge transfer.
I think this idea of a new DNA is great way to think about teaching. I think that many teachers are struggling with adopting current teaching practices and technology, especially those teachers who have it ingrained from 10+years of teaching.
It's hard to change and acknowledging that a whole new DNA is needed gives a great metaphor for how much of a change is required and how much people, particularly under stress, fall back to the ways they have always done something. It's good to remember that not only were you educated with traditional knowledge transfer methods, then you subsequently trained to be a teacher using the same methods, so...no wonder it's challenging to change!
Another challenging area which I am currently observing are the parents who are in transition of education practices. They have been educated using knowledge transfer methods and they are seeing their children being educated in a different manner which is challenging for them as many parents are unsure how to support their children s learning.
